Here’s how to be most impactful in supporting the campaign to pass HR 262, the Federal Death Penalty Prohibition Act of 2021.

Here are three quick actions to consider for yourself, and just as important, to invite others to join you by taking action themselves:

  1. Anyone may sign this THANK YOU petition to President Biden, which we will be delivering to him on Monday afternoon. We anticipate his signing an Executive Order prohibiting federal and military executions on Tuesday. We want to support him in that, and ask him to take it further.
  2. Anyone may use this tool to quickly message their members of congress. Once complete, people will receive further guidance on additional direct contact with their members of congress. …

Joe Biden promised that one of his first actions is to sign an executive order banning all federal executions.

This is a giant step away from the previous administration that executed 13 people, but we want to take it a step further. We are working with leaders in Congress to put a bill on Joe Biden’s desk in first 100 days that abolishes the federal and military death penalty once and for all.

We need your help to do it.

We’re looking to hire 20 organizers to mobilize support for HR 262, the Federal Death Penalty Prohibition Act of 2021. With your help, we’ll work to ensure the bill passes in both chambers. Can you donate $1 per day for the next 100 days to make sure we have the resources to get an abolition bill to Joe Biden’s desk?

We learned today that Joe Biden plans to sign an executive order banning federal executions. Please click here to say THANKS to President-Elect Biden.

Together with you and many others, Death Penalty Action is going to take this much further. We plan to organize and have congress send Biden a bill that abolishes the federal and military death penalty. We also want our new president to take it all the way, and BULLDOZE the Death House at the federal prison at Terre Haute, where Trump executed 13 prisoners in the past six months. …

Corey Johnson was pronounced dead at 11:34 last night, becoming the 12th victim of the Trump Administration’s unprecedented six-month execution spree. Corey’s Minister of Record, Rev. Bill Breeden, was with him when he was killed and had this to say immediately after exiting the prison.

Now Dustin Higgs is coming to grips with the reality that he is quite likely in his final 12 hours. I was with Dustin’s sister when she came to the vigil outside the prison yesterday evening. …

The stay was reversed just after midnight and they killed Lisa Montgomery at 1:31 am as we stood across from the prison with Lisa’s family. Lisa’s sister and niece expressed deep appreciation for our presence and your opposition to the execution of their loved one. Read about the protests here.

This afternoon, Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Senator Richard Durban introduced legislation to abolish the federal death penalty! You may have heard the story on National Public Radio.

“Americans are waking up to the outrageousness of Trump’s federal execution spree. After the insurrection by Trump supporters at the urging of the President, it should be clear to everyone how dangerous it is to allow government the power to judicially execute its citizens. Sooner or later, things will get out of hand, as it has over the past six months. We call on Congress and President-elect Biden to prioritize abolition of the federal death penalty in the first 100 days of the new administration.”

Death Penalty Action has been leading public demonstrations opposing the federal execution spree since execution dates were first announced in July, 2019. During the past six months, the organization has realized tremendous growth from a membership of approximately 20,000 in July to approaching 500,000 today. Over the past six months, Death Penalty Action built the coalition referenced in Rep. Pressley’s press release. (The Federal Death Penalty Prohibition Act of 2021 is endorsed by 242 organizations. …

We have important news. I’m in Washington DC, where we just delivered over half a million of your petition signatures to the Department of Justice, demanding a halt to next week’s scheduled federal executions of Lisa Montgomery, Corey Johnson and Dustin Higgs. People are still signing petitions here.

59% of Americans are aware of the federal execution spree set to continue next week, and about half of those polled oppose it. This is important, because it means that there are many millions who would do something, if you invite them to act!

That’s good news. We don’t have to change anyone’s mind. We just have to find those who agree with us and get them to do something!

The #1 thing to do?
