1500 Executions? Say NO!

Death Penalty Action
2 min readMay 2, 2019

If it goes forward, Georgia’s execution tonight will be the 1,495th execution since 1977. Thus we begin a countdown to a troubling and shameful milestone on the road to Abolition.

This evening in Georgia, Scotty Morrow is scheduled to be executed in response to his murders of Barbara Ann Young and Tonya Woods. Click here to ask Georgia’s Governor Kemp to stop the execution.

But there is something more. At this writing, the 1500th execution in the post-furman era of the death penalty may be in August, and possibly sooner.

For many reasons, the date is fluid, but the need to highlight the many wasteful failures of capital punishment is not. As with the previous milestones of the 500th and 1000th executions, in collaboration with allies, coordinators of Death Penalty Action will be organizing visibility and action on the ground and in the media whenever and wherever the 1500th execution takes place.

How will YOU help? Sign the petition and share it. Here is a sample post to cut and paste:

And of course, please help Death Penalty Action create the biggest impact possible with your investment right now using this link: https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/carry-it-further-by-investing-today-2/ or use Paypal at https://www.paypal.me/DeathPenaltyAction

Your investment will help us pay for tracking and preparation. We’ll need to support abolitionists on the ground once it is clear where #1500 may be. This may include last-minute travel, new signage, and other outreach. The more we have to work with, the greater our impact will be.

More soon. Many thanks!
