An Execution Spree is Upon Us: Take Action!

If not you, who? If not now, when?

I have unfortunate news.

Just a short while ago, the Oklahoma Pardon & Parole Board created a new policy for what to do when a commutation hearing is set and then an execution date is set in the same case. When that happens, as is the case with Julius Jones, then the entire matter will be addressed at a clemency hearing, which must take place at least 21 days prior to the scheduled execution.

In anticipation of the court affirming the seven execution dates requested by the Attorney General, the Oklahoma Pardon & Parole Board set tentative dates for clemency hearings. Julius Jones is now tentatively set for a clemency hearing on October 5th. More on this case soon. Add your name to the Julius Jones petition here.

But Julius Jones' case is not singular, and possible innocence is not the only reason not to have executions.

John Grant is set for execution on October 7. If that happens, it will be Oklahoma's first execution since 2015. By all accounts, John Grant had an unfair trial with a lawyer who failed to bring evidence that Grant suffered horrific abuse while in the state's corrupt and abusive juvenile justice system. Grant started in that system at age 12. He acknowledged his crime, is remorseful, and has apologized to his victim's families. He is worthy of grace and mercy.

Get the details and sign the petition for John Grant.

REMINDER: A week from tomorrow on Septemebr 8th, Texas plans to kick off its own execution spree. Click here to see the full list of currently scheduled executions and sign each of the petitions available on that page.

If not you, who? If not now, when?

Yours in the struggle,
