Today, we actually spoke with Gov. Lee himself. We handed him the letter from the prisoners, the petitions from Death Penalty Action, as well as a copy of Pastor KB’s prayer. We then prayed with Governor Lee.
First, yesterday the bill to abolish the death penalty in Colorado passed the House Judiciary Committee with a vote of 6–3. Already passed in the Senate, a floor vote in the House is expected to send the bill to the Governor’s desk in the coming weeks!
That was expected. What was NOT expected happened in Tennessee yesterday morning. Petition signatures on the Death Penalty Action petition for Nick Sutton were hand delivered to Governor Lee by Dan Mann (on R in photo) and Rev. Kevin Riggs (black shirt). Here’s Kevin’s report:
“Today, Dan Mann and myself went to the State Capital asking to see Governor Lee so that we could hand deliver a letter signed by 33 guys on death row requesting Gov. Lee to come pray with them. We also wanted to share the petition signatures and to talk with Governor Lee about why he should show mercy to Nick Sutton and cancel the execution scheduled for Thursday.
“We have tried this before and have been completely ignored. Today, however, we actually got to speak with Gov. Lee himself, hand him the letter from the prisoners, the petitions from Death Penalty Action, as well as a copy of Pastor KB’s prayer. We then prayed with Governor Lee.
We don’t know what Governor Lee will do, but it’s going to come down to today — the day before Nick Sutton’s scheduled electrocution. Here’s how YOU can HELP MAKE THE DIFFERENCE:
- Send Governor Lee an e-mail at email@example.com AND call him at 615–741–2001 — Ask him to go pray with the prisoners on death row. Ask him to stop all executions.
- Order postcards for you and your community to send to Gov. Lee.
- Make a donation to help cover Death Penalty Action’s costs of supporting this effort.
- Spread the word! Share this sample social media post:
