For the record, we’ll be there officially in our non-partisan Death Penalty Action hat. Abe will be leading one training, and will otherwise be networking with many other leaders. Our goal is to assist people working in other sectors by making sure they have the right words and connections when capital punishment comes up in the election debates and organizing. Death Penalty Action will give people tools for finding common ground with folks who do not yet see the death penalty as either immoral, or as a failed public policy.
As you know, in our non-partisan hat, the work is simply public education about the issue without advocating for or against any particular political candidate. Death Penalty Action is advocating for better public policy choices when it comes to responding to capital murder, and will do so in the context of elections where and when it makes sense and is legal given our 501c3 nonprofit tax status.
