If all goes as planned, an electric chair execution will take place in Tennessee today for the first time in over a decade.

Because we have your support to help cover transportation, meals and related expenses, in collaboration with our partners in Tennessee, a team from Death Penalty Action will be on-site to say NO on your behalf. Gary Witte, SueZann Bosler and I are about to hit the road from Ohio and expect to be present at protest activities. Follow us today on Facebook & Twitter, and please keep us in your thoughts and prayers for safe travels and effective witness.

Please call Gov. Haslam Now!

Edmund Zagorski seems almost certain to be killed in revenge for his murders of John Dale Dotson and Jimmy Porter. Please contact Governor Haslam again right now and tell him to stop this unnecessary killing. Reach Governor Haslam at 615–741–2001 or email bill.haslam@tn.gov.

ALSO… The President, Jews & The Death Penalty!

In the wake of the latest “mass shooting of the week,” once again the President is calling for more and faster executions. Being Jewish, this one hit a little closer to home with me. Because the victims were Jewish, the President’s comments were extra-insulting and insensitive. Why? Because while Jewish law allows for executions, Jewish law also makes them practically impossible. Attorney David Dow put it this way:

“I post this for the benefit of my non-jewish friends: following a shabbat morning shooting at a synagogue, Donald Trump used the tragedy to rally his base by calling for an expanded use of the death penalty. It so happens that although the Hebrew bible does in fact call for capital punishment in some instances (for, among other things, violating the sabbath, disrespecting one’s parents, or committing adultery (beware Newt Gingrich)), rabbinic Judaism (i.e., Jewish law) is so opposed to capital punishment it renders it practically impossible to dispense.”

Here is a new article on the subject in today’s Washington Post.

We’ll have more on the Federal death penalty soon.
