If not you, who? If not now, when?

First, we’re all on pins and needles waiting for a decision about whether the judge will recommend a new trial for Rodney Reed in Texas. Watch for news to break any time now — search #RodneyReed on social media.

After yesterday’s horrific botched execution of John Grant in Oklahoma, it is clear that our work is cut out for us all.

Did you notice something?

Texas executions have slowed to a trickle and are all now at a temporary halt pending resolution in the John Ramirez case. However, as we predicted in the Spring, other states are revving up their killing machines. (Links below are petitions you can sign.)

  • Oklahoma just had its first execution since 2015 and the next one is Nov 18.
  • Mississippi has one scheduled on Nov 17.
  • Alabama just did one and two more dates are anticipated.
  • We’re all puzzled that South Carolina has not yet figured out its firing squad.
  • Idaho has scheduled a clemency hearing on Nov 30 for the terminally ill Gerald Pizzuto.
  • Tennessee… it’s just a matter of time there and elsewhere.

I’ve extended my stay in Oklahoma to be here for Julius Jones’s clemency hearing on Monday at 9am CDT. At 8am CDT on Monday, I’ll be marching with the Julius Jones coalition to deliver your petition signatures on this petition. There’s just over 12,000 signatures now. Please help get it over 20,000 by Monday!

Please add your name now for Julius Jones, the next person scheduled for execution in Oklahoma!

I’m heading out for another visibility action and the nightly prayer vigil outside the official Oklahoma Governor’s residence.

Thank you for taking action!

Yours in the struggle,

— Abe
