Ohio May End Death Penalty // Ohio Journey Continues…
Smile.
Cutting to the chase, thank YOU for the part you played in making the Ohio Journey of Hope the success that it was. I have some great news! The Republican Speaker of the House of the Ohio General Assembly is hinting that Ohio legislators may soon consider abandoning the death penalty.

Because of YOU, the Ohio Journey of Hope helped create space for this conversation. Journey speakers shared their stories with hundreds of Ohioans face to face and millions through statewide media coverage. Our message: the death penalty does not serve the needs of murder victim families. We created an amazing record of the voices of many different victims of the death penalty, and we celebrated a few of the outstanding leaders in our movement. We touched hearts and planted seeds that are already coming to fruition.
We are still putting together reports on the various aspects of the Ohio Journey.
- Media coverage is linked here.
- The videos made of the panels at the “Cast No Stones” conference, including Sr. Helen Prejean, Rev. Sharon Risher, Shane Claiborne, Bill Pelke, Kwame Ajamu, Derrick Jamison, and many other powerful “Voices of Experience” are available here.
- And you can see the beautiful program book from the Journey of Hope Leadership Awards Gala here.
I’m excited to report that we raised exactly enough to cover the costs of everything we did. Our goal remains to raise significantly more funds in order to share resources with partner organizations like Ohioans to Stop Executions and the Ohio Council of Churches, and to set the Journey and our movement up for success in 2020. We are exploring a return to Ohio in March in order to meet the demands of organizations who want Journey speakers to visit their communities.
I invite you to chip in again right now using this link to help us reach our goal of $100K.
I wish you and yours the happiest of holidays this season, and all the best in 2020.
Thank you,
— abe

Feel free to decline “covering the fees,” because they charge you as much as 7%, but they only charge us 2.2%. We’re happy to absorb that cost. Click here to chip in now!
