What if we told you that together we could abolish Ohio’s death penalty before the end of 2020? Would you believe us? Would you help?
Last week we were excited to stand with Ohio Senator Nickie Antonio, former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, and other allies as it was announced that a bill to repeal Ohio’s death penalty is soon to be introduced. Click here to watch the story as Death Penalty Action founding board member Daniel Flynn (see image below) is interviewed by Cincinnati’s WCPO TV.
Death Penalty Action is already hard at work to make sure Ohio legislators will hear from constituents once the legislation is introduced. Together with speakers from the Journey of Hope… From Violence to Healing, Catholic Mobilizing Network, The Ohio Council of Churches and others, last week we spoke face to face with more than 2000 central Ohio Catholic high school students in three different schools. This morning (Sunday) we were in a small rural church in Southwestern Ohio.
Tomorrow we’ll be in a fourth high school, and tomorrow evening at 7pm EDT, we’ll conduct a public forum on Ohio’s death penalty featuring FOUR Death Penalty Action Advisory Board Members who will bring the issue alive with their Voices of Experience on the Death Penalty. Details are here. If you live nearby, please come. Otherwise, watch via Facebook Live on the Journey of Hope Facebook page.
We’re waiting for the legislation to be introduced so that we have a bill number to reference, and then we’ll be launching appeals for Ohioans to contact their legislators. In the mean time, your financial assistance at any level is vitally needed at this time in order to significantly boost our impact. We also welcome volunteers to help with various projects. Thank you! Yours in the Struggle,
