#StopThe1500th Execution! Perspectives on capital punishment as 1500th execution approaches…
Death Penalty Action’s Scott Langley, Randy Gardner, SueZann Bosler and allies in Georgia will be delivering the first batch of your petition signatures in the coming hours.
Because of YOU and with your continued support, Death Penalty Action has been successful at enhancing discussion, reflection and ACTION regarding the realities of capital punishment in the United States today.
- This morning, The Intercept published a deep perspective piece in which Death Penalty Action Co-Director Abe Bonowitz is quoted.
- On Monday, Amnesty International hosted a Twitter Chat to highlight issues around this horrific milestone execution. Search #StopThe1500th or check the Twitter feeds of @AmnestyUSA and @DeathPenaltyAct and you’ll see it.
- Perhaps coincidentally, the Death Penalty Information Center launched its new web page late last week, highlighting new searchable database tools that show precisely what the stories are about America’s death penalty at 1500.
Tomorrow morning is the clemency hearing. Unless relief is granted, the 1500th execution takes place Thursday evening.
Because YOU helped, Death Penalty Action co-director Scott Langley landed in Atlanta today. He is being joined by Death Penalty Action Advisory Board Members Randy Gardner and SueZann Bosler. Randy’s brother was executed by firing squad in Utah. SueZann witnessed her father be stabbed to death and she she herself was stabbed and left for dead. Together, because of your support, these three are adding their voices of experience to the conversation in Georgia. Watch our Facebook page for updates on their activities.
More than 2000 people have signed our petition on the Change.org platform. Scott, Randy, SueZann and allies in Georgia will be delivering the first batch of your petition signatures in the coming hours.
Death Penalty Action Advisory Board Chair Shane Claiborne is in the UK taking prayerful action, and Death Penalty Action Co-Director Abe Bonowitz is in Paris (Meet up 7pm local time Wednesday eve near Eiffel Tower- details here), interrupting a long-planned family vacation to meet with French abolitionists and leaders of the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty. Together, Shane, Abe and the people they are encountering will send the #StopThe1500th execution message from around the world!
