TODAY: Final Execution of 2019… But wait…
Today is the final scheduled execution in 2019. But it turns out there’s made up evidence. Take Action!
At 6pm CST, Travis Runnels is scheduled to be executed in Texas. As usual, there’s a problem. It turns out there’s a Texas investigator who prides himself on predicting future dangerousness, counting notches on his belt to note how many men he’s sent to death row. Oh, and now it seems sometimes he makes stuff up. If it happens, this will be the third execution he’s helped make happen just this year. Anyone else seeing red flags? Learn more here. Today is also National Julius Jones Petition Day. Julius Jones is on death row in Oklahoma for a crime he did not commit. We could write a couple of books just on this case, but luckily Death Penalty Action is part of the team supporting the effort to stop this execution and free Julius Jones. There’s so much more to do. Pictured above is Charles Kieth, brother of former Ohio death row prisoner Kevin Keith, being supported by Rodrick Reed, who updated us this past Sunday on the case status of his brother, Rodney Reed. Rodrick’s and Charles’s message is the same: “My brother is innocent and must be freed, and my family and I stand against all executions. We are working to abolish the death penalty!”
These men and many others spoke out against the now halted federal executions that were scheduled for this week during Sunday’s International Human Rights Day Death Penalty Convocation organized by Death Penalty Action in conjunction with Terre Haute Death Penalty Resistance.
