#TooMuchDoubt: Stop Missouri’s Execution of Walter “Arkie” Barton

Courts have so far declined to stay the May 19th execution of Walter “Arkie” Barton in Missouri in revenge for his alleged murder of Gladys Kuehler. Even as he has yet to issue a decision on Barton’s petition seeking executive clemency, Governor Mike Parson has declared that the execution will go forward.

Death Penalty Action is partnering with Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty to gather as many petition signatures as possible in advance of a press conference and petition delivery scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th at the Missouri State Capitol building.

There remains reasonable doubt about Barton’s guilt, as well as competency issues. On top of that, while Texas, Tennessee and other states are postponing executions due to the coronavirus pandemic, Missouri appears set to move forward.
