UNCONSCIONABLE!
I have learned with horror of the intention of the state of Idaho to execute hospice patient Gerald Ross Pizzuto, Jr.
My name is Cantor Michael Zoosman. I am a former prison chaplain and for the past eight years have served as a multifaith federal hospital chaplain at the National Institutes of Health - Clinical Center in Bethesda, MD. I am also a member of the Board of Advisors of Death Penalty Action.
I write because I have learned with horror of the intention of the state of Idaho to execute hospice patient Gerald Ross Pizzuto, Jr. Mr. Pizzuto has multiple health issues and has been in hospice care for over a year.
I have provided spiritual support to countless individuals in hospice care over the years. Recently during the federal execution spree, I began to support prisoners facing execution - none of whom were terminally ill. The idea of executing someone who is already at end-of-life is incomprehensible to me and is a blatant violation of any form of medical ethics and human rights. That is why I invite you to join me in petitioning to stop this execution.
Please sign this petition, which will be delivered Tuesday morning to the Idaho Pardons and Parole Commission.
Any human being involved in the process of clearing the path toward Mr. Pizzuto's execution has a moral responsibility to do all they can to stop this from happening.
Mr. Pizzuto's case is not just about him: it is about the very soul of Idaho, and our nation. Please... do not kill!
