…Raising concerns about executions in light of the pandemic, and calling out the true political nature of the timing of these execution dates.

The first federal executions in 17 years are set for next week on July 13, 15 (stayed) & 17 in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Please chip in $5 or more today to help stop the executions!

The US Supreme Court just issued its orders today at 2pm EDT and there was nothing related to the federal cases. We will continue to keep watch for you, and we will issue news and action updates on our Facebook and Twitter pages as available.

With your help, Death Penalty Action will be there next week. In fact, we were just there on Monday, holding a press conference with the Terre Haute Death Penalty Resistance Network. READ “Activists speak out against upcoming executions.”

Sister Barbara Battista, Justice Promoter for Sisters of Providence, Sylvester Edwards, President of the Terre Haute branch of the NAACP, and Arthur Feinsod, President of the Interfaith Council of the Wabash Valley are all part of the Terre Haute Death Penalty Resistence network.

And yesterday, Death Penalty Action’s co-Director Abraham Bonowitz published an op-ed in the Terre Haute Star-Tribune, raising concerns about executions in light of the pandemic, and calling out the true political nature of the timing of these execution dates.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this sample post on your social media:

Flashpoint: #Trump is playing politics with the #DeathPenalty by scheduling executions in the middle of #COVID as a way to stoke his base before the political conventions. https://www.tribstar.com/opinion/flashpoint/flashpoint-trump-is-playing-politics-with-the-death-penalty/article_cdab851c-bfd4-11ea-ba68-47c8be824451.html | #StopExecutions #NoFederalExecutions #DefundTheDeathPenalty

What’s next?

Petitions and other actions you may take or share to protest these executions are here: http://deathpenaltyaction.org/federal-death-penalty. We are gathering information about on-line prayer and protest vigils you can connect with. That information will be posted there in the coming hours. This weekend, Death Penalty Action co-directors Scott Langley and Abe Bonowitz will position themselves in Terre Haute to help lead our local team in safe, socially distant protests with our new “Abolish the Death Penalty” masks on (order below).
