Urge Biden to Commit to END FEDERAL EXECUTIONS

Death Penalty Action

--

Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s office reached out, asking Death Penalty Action to help invite more members of congress to add their names to a letter she is writing to Joe Biden. Rep. Pressley is asking the President-Elect to commit to halting federal executions from day one of his administration. Scroll down to see a copy below — all the way below the PS at the bottom.

Click here to send a letter to your Members of Congress, urging them to join Rep. Pressley as a signer on her letter, AND also to sign on as a co-sponsor of HB 4052. Please do this right now. Deadline to sign on is Monday at Noon (12/14/2020).

ALSO: so as to not overwhelm you, here’s a bit more information and several opportunities for additional action:

These guys are on the crew keeping the Washingtn, DC Black Lives Matter Plaza tidy. They happened by as Gary and I were setting up for the execution vigil on Thursday, and were enthusiastic at my offer of a t-shirt. That was after we had a conversation about the killing that was to come. Check out our Merch here.

There were TWO federal executions, one on Thursday and one on Friday. Death Penalty Action has been leading the struggle to shine a spotlight on these federal executions. There have now been ten since July 14. Many people are outraged, and as a result, we have experienced enormous growth: More than 160,000 people have signed one or more of our petitions, just since Thursday! Welcome!

  • JOIN US at Noon on Sunday for a FaceBook Live event with Ohio Death Row Survivor Ahmad Issa. He’ll be sharing about his struggles and successes since he was freed from Death Row just about one year ago, and since he never received any sort of compensation or even an apology, we’ll be helping him out. Click here to read more about Ahmad and how you can help. Again, that starts at Noon EST on Sunday, 12/13/2020 on Death Penalty Action’s FaceBook page.
  • There have been 173 (at current count) exonerated death row survivors in the United States since 1973. Witness to Innocence is their organization. These are people who have been freed after many years on death row for crimes they did not commit. Some got compensation, but many got *nothing*. Witness to Innocence has an EMERGENCY SUPPORT fund for death row survivors facing hard times. Especially as we get into the holidays, I hope you will join me in chipping in. Here’s the link.

Many thanks!
