We Killed An Innocent Man Last Night
Thank you for taking action as we tried to stop the execution of an innocent man. Walter Barton was killed by the state of Missouri shortly after 6pm CDT last night.
Death Penalty Action worked hand in hand with our partners in Missouri to try to stop the execution, and to make sure the world was watching. Together with you, we generated and delivered thousands of petition signatures, and yesterday we thoroughly jammed up the phones in the Governor’s office. When all of that failed, we facilitated a powerful on-line execution protest vigil, which you can watch here. At this writing more than 18,000 people have viewed at least a part of the vigil.
We must lament that we live in a world where the legal system and elected officials are blind to the possibility of being wrong. And we must renew and redouble our efforts to change our world.
